Junior Trader

Department: Investments
Location: San Diego, CA

Centura Wealth Advisory is hiring for Junior Trader. As a Junior Trader, you will perform a wide array of tasks and be responsible for supporting the investment team. You will be concentrated within Trading, with the goal of improving the team’s efficiencies to effectively scale our firm, while upholding our high standards of quality execution. This position is located onsite in San Diego, California.

This role requires acute attention to detail, with a premium on quality and efficiency. As a Junior Trader, you will play a critical hands-on role in the firm’s growth and development.

In this role, you will work closely with the CIO, Investment Management Team, Advisors, Partners, Financial Planners, Marketing, Compliance, and the Investment Committee.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare advisory accounts and materials for trading
  • Serve critical role as a specialist during new advisor onboarding and portfolio transition
  • Maintain correspondence between Advisors and Trading Department, including incoming trade requests
  • Maintain administrative functions for advisory accounts (creating cash buffers, monitoring cash balances for scheduled distributions, etc.)
  • Perform post-trade reconciliation audits
  • Coordinate and perform periodic internal audits of advisory accounts, investment strategies, and Model Groups
  • Research and remedy possible trade abnormalities and potential trade errors
  • Assist in periodic share class conversion process
  • Act as an auxiliary trader when needed
  • Assisting the Trading Department in improving execution and efficiency
  • Generating systems and processes for quality control verification and ensure adherence to the firm’s policies and procedures

Additional Success Factors:

You will be required to develop and maintain strong working relationships with all members of our team, the organization, custodians, external advisors, consultants and other vendors. You will be delivering reports and other work products to internal and external stakeholders, therefore, writing and presenting skills will be essential. This role requires efficiency in data management, communication, data interpretation and process orientation.

You will need to be comfortable with taking ownership of and executing projects as well as seeking assistance when required to deliver desired results. The role will require documenting certain operational processes clearly in an ongoing effort to institutionalize all operations.

Qualifications & Experience:
Experience & licensing:

  • 2+ years of financial services experience at an investment manager, brokerage firm, RIA, or similar preferred
  • Undergraduate degree is required, preferably in finance, economics, or business administration
  • Already registered with Trading experience preferred
  • The willingness to obtain either of the following certifications: CFA, CAIA, CFP®, CMT, or CIMA
  • Series 65 or 66 required within the first six months of hire

Communication skills:

  • Experience and ability to communicate and manage third-party asset manager relationships
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship skills required
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills required
  • Able to prepare client facing communications in a professional manner (word, ppt)
  • High EQ - emotional intelligence is a plus

Analytical skills:

  • Ability to read & decipher a multitude of data sets and then clearly tell the story
  • Understanding of business entities and their various structures
  • Ability to audit large datasets to identify any abnormalities and trends

Software usage & proficiency:

  • Microsoft Office: Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint – required
  • Excel modeling and advanced functions - required
  • Orion Advisor software (Eclipse) – preferred
  • Salesforce - preferred
  • Brokerage trading and account interfaces (i.e., Fusion, Schwab Advisor Center, etc.)
  • Market databases and analytics (i.e., YCharts, PitchBook, etc.)
